Ailsa Goodwin

Head of Advocacy

Ailsa joined AIST as Head of Advocacy in November 2017 and has more than a decade of experience working in financial services. Ailsa has held various senior management roles at the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) where she led teams responsible for the Future of Financial Advice reforms, Stronger Super reforms and reviews of the regulatory settings for life insurance within and outside superannuation. Ailsa also previously worked as a solicitor at a national law firm in Sydney and Melbourne, as well as a role in regulatory policy at Industry Super Australia.

Ailsa is responsible for managing AIST’s advocacy team including policy, research, media and communications. Ailsa holds a Bachelor of Laws (with Honours) and a Bachelor of Arts.


David Haynes

Senior Policy Manager

As  AIST’s Senior Policy Manager, David has spent the last six years working closely with Parliament, Government, Treasury, regulators and other key stakeholders in developing and implementing all aspects of superannuation policy including major projects such as the Financial System Inquiry, the Tax Inquiry, MySuper, SuperStream, default fund selection and Comprehensive Income Products for Retirement (CIPRs).

David has more than 20 years’ experience in the industry including time as the CEO of Industry Fund Services and AUSfund, as an executive at Members Equity, as an account manager for Australian Administration Services (AAS), and as a trustee of a number of superannuation funds.

David holds a parallel role as Executive Superannuation Policy Advisor at IQ Group and is also a director of the SuperStream Gateway Network Governance Body and Chairs the Audit and Risk Committee of the Council of the Aging (COTA) Victoria.


Holly Lindsay

Senior Manager, Governance

Holly joined AIST in February 2019 and has more than twenty years of experience in ESG in the financial and mining sectors. Over the last few years Holly has worked in superannuation on a range of issues including corporate governance, corporate conduct systems (including whistleblowing), climate change and modern slavery. Prior to this Holly managed the Singapore office of CSR Asia as well as her own consulting practice in Australia. Holly has extensive experience in the mining sector, having worked on country risk, climate change and business conduct for BHP for 14 years.

Holly is responsible for supporting AIST members who are preparing reports to demonstrate how their fund meets the 21 standards of the AIST Governance Code and she is the secretariat to the Governance Code Monitoring Panel. Holly holds a Master of Economics, an MBA and a Bachelor of Arts (Honours Economics).

Karen Volpato

Senior Policy Advisor

Karen is AIST’s Senior Policy Advisor. In this capacity, Karen manages AIST’s strategic research framework and projects.

Her previous roles included Marketing Manager of First State Super, where Karen was responsible for marketing, policy, corporate affairs and product. In this role, Karen oversaw the marketing rollout of First State Super becoming a public offer fund as well as the merger with Health Super.

Karen has extensive experience in the banking and superannuation industry, has a legal background and holds a Bachelor of Laws.

Karen was awarded Money Management’s 2017 Woman of the Year and has in the past been voted as Selecting Super’s Superannuation Marketer of the Year.

Richard Webb

Policy & Regulatory Analyst

Richard Webb is a Policy & Regulatory Analyst. Richard has been with AIST for eight years, having also worked in AIST’s education and governance departments.

Richard has a deep understanding of the complex issues in superannuation policy and plays an active role in developing and implementing AIST’s policy and government relations strategy, participating in parliamentary inquiries, Government committees and consultations involving Treasury and regulators. He also leads the formulation of AIST policy submissions and coordinates the activities of AIST’s Policy & Governance Committee.

Richard has over 20 years’ experience within financial services including roles at Superpartners, AXA and the Commonwealth Bank.

Richard holds a Bachelor of Commerce, a Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance, a Diploma in Financial Planning, and a Master of Applied Finance. He also plays trombone in 2 ½ bands when he’s not studying.

Zach Tung

Policy & Regulatory Analyst

Zach joined AIST as a Policy and Regulatory Analyst in April 2019. He has over 10 years’ experience working in the financial services sector across both London and Australia. He recently worked as a Project Manager of a Taskforce which was commissioned to grow a culture of social impact investing in the UK. Zach has also held a number of different roles in the financial advice sector, including roles as a Paraplanner and Quality Advice Assurance Manager.

Zach supports the AIST advocacy team through analysing and researching proposed superannuation policy, proposed regulations as well as reviewing current practices. He is responsible for assisting in the development of policy position in relation to proposed changes to Australia’s superannuation system and is responsible for providing information to assist in the development of the evidence base for AIST’s position.

Zach holds a Masters in Applied Finance, Master of Business Administration (MBA) and a Diploma in Financial Services.
